Designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the sclera, scleral lenses can morph an irregular cornea into a smooth optical surface to correct vision problems caused by keratoconus and other forms of corneal ectasia.
Scleral contact lenses take some time to get use to. While these lenses are generally quite comfortable, it will take time to adjust to the insertion and removal process. They are customized to fit your eyes with total precision, so a proper fit is critical. Expect a longer appointment on the initial fit and initial dispense.
Scleral lenses are not automatically covered by vision and medical insurance. They are considered medically necessary and the rates and restrictions vary greatly from one insurance provider to another.
